with a name like this …
… who'd a thunk that neighboroo would be the most sophisticated use of the Google Maps API as a GIS that the labs has encountered yet?
they've got polygons, custom map tiles, color ramps, double-clicks, extensive amounts of data [crime, population density, quality of life, commute time, etc.]… basically everything we want to do. given the amount of data they're working with, the site is even relatively responsive, though they do severely limit one's ability to zoom [a neat trick, but not very cool in practice].
we also really appreciate their concern for web accessiblity: the red-green color ramp used for crime data can be switched to a blue-yellow one with the click of a link.
there's only one thing we can do: analyze their code. the labs'll have it in the garage all weekend, and, hopefully by monday, we'll have a tutorial put together to let you know how they do it.
thanks, Todd
